Wisdom is much better than gold,
To realize rather than silver;
And how the future will unfold,
Not receiving but the giver.
The upright highway turns aside,
For avoiding evil doers;
Guarding your life when you abide,
As of one righteous pursuers.
Pride goes before your destruction,
Haughty spirits before a fall;
Since Satan attempts seduction,
Prior to the Lord that you call.
Better as a lowly spirit,
In being humbled with the poor;
Than taking pride in your merit,
That another just might deplore.
