January Morn

Aimlessly searching for the grailEndlessly teased
To their avail
My belief in us
Disturbingly naïve
I desire relief
In the holy spirit
Not protection from a
Man made chemical sheen.
Just marking time
Counting regrets
Instead of blessings
Until the sun rises and falls
A flash of light
A second sight
Ruminating on the thought
While blinded within
This nicotine haze
Of vacating from this malaise
By driving half cocked
But sober crazy
To your unknown location
Letting intuition guide the way
Serenading you
With a red rose
Instead of laying
Spread eagle on your tracks
Aiming for a peace of mind
And a piece of you
With a dicentra across my back.
Long to be covered
In your warm delectable kisses
Instead of withering away
In this mechanicalized subtlety
Just another smokescreen
To be here
But not fully present
Cause feeling anything
Just erodes the need
For total control.
Despite the rancor
Of inner dialogue
And mocking laughter
From the cheap seats
I have to keep moving
Instead of retreating
To where I've always been safe
But never felt free.
Please God cease
These racing despairing thoughts!
Searching high and low
Despite six eyes rolling
For a thread
A smooth road to tread
Needing a conclusion
To this colossal emotional mess
But it's all illusion
For as long as your pulse
Remains steady
We'll never be in collusion.
The solution smacked
In my face
My awkwardness
And lack of grace
Too racked with guilt
To pretend
I'm ready
To give my best.
It's more likely
I'll always be infested
With low class etiquette
Runner up but
Never your number one
I can ruminate into an early grave
Trying to understand why
You chose a different direction
Yet you're more substantial
Than one night stands
That for some are certain
Like death and taxes.
Whether I change
Or remain unbuttoned
Doesn't mean
I don't wish you
A flourishing love baby
I may argue with you incessantly
The sky has always been Azul
Not blue
A perfect 8
Shuffling two step
Into your garden
With a declaration of love
Most deserving of
Since that early morn
January 1984.
