When in distress they had sought you,
In trouble they have visited;
They poured out a prayer to pursue,
Because they have been afflicted.

They whispered out a prayer when chastened,
Your discipline was upon them;
Confessing how they did offend,
Pleading that You do not condemn.

Like a woman who’s nearing time,
Writhes and cries out about her pain;
Finding herself monsoonal clime,
Gushing out like a pouring rain.

We were pregnant with birth to wind,
Accomplished no deliverance;
Inhabitants undisciplined,
Thinking of our preference.

Dwellers of a world not deceased,
They shall live as bodies shall rise;
As You call them to the great feast,
For eternal life as their prize.

You who dwell in the dust awake,
For the dew is a dew of light;
Casting out the dead for earth’s sake,
Singing for joy for new insight.
