Idleness

Go unto the ant O sluggard,
Consider her ways and be wise;
Have you seen the ant been slumbered,
In gathering food with closed eyes.

Without a guide or overseer,
She prepares her bread in summer;
Gathers food like a warrior,
For the harvest like a runner.

How long will you lie there and sleep,
O sluggard, open up your eyes;
Like a new lamb get up and leap,
From your sleep when will you arise.

A little sleep and a little rest,
Poverty will come like a thief;
For an armed man will do his best,
As a traveler to cause grief.
